Kalaripayat is said to be one of the most ancient martial arts. It consists of exercises specifically designed for a complete mastering of the body (balance, suppleness, reflexes, muscular tone, general health…), armed and hand-to-hand combat techniques as well as therapeutic massages based on the knowledge of vital spots. Kalaripayat is also known for its spectacular nature.

Both aerial and flowing, Kalaripayat gives absolute priority to breathing control and meditation.
Kalaripayat is approached through the study of Meïpayyatu (combat sequences of movements), armed and hand-to-hand techniques and eventually Kalaricikilsa, a therapy coming from Ayurveda and specific to Kalaripayat.

The aim of Kalaripayat is to learn how to keep one’s self-control in any circumstance.

“Don’t look for fight, but when you are faced with it, be able to dodge without giving in under punches and then face the opponent”.
“Kundu poi kodukarudhe, cennu vangarudhe, vannal vidarhude”.
